More Quilt Market Fun!

This quilt is called "Laundry Day"...  Just too adorable!
Take a walk down the aisles at Quilt Market with me and enjoy some eye candy.  Honestly, I should have taken better notes.  I have some really fun photos, but I am clueless as to who made them or which booths they were in.  If anyone knows or wants to clue me in, leave me a comment or send me an email, and I will give proper credit.  For now, we'll just take a stroll...

Loved the houses in this one.

Isn't this beach scene adorable?
Castles, houses and trees!  What fun!
LOVE the airplanes, trucks and cars.  What a great boy's quilt!

Sometimes, what was on display was just plain overwhelming.  So much to see...

I really liked the sewing panels.  The quilt itself is a little drab for me, but the panels are awesome!

Who says you can only make quilts from quilter's cotton?  What little girl wouldn't love these outfits?

Quilt Market was certainly a visual feast.  I'll be back with more yummy stuff tomorrow.

Wonderful to Get Away... Lovely to Be Home

Union Jack quilt by mother-daughter design team Cabbages and Roses from Spring Quilt Market in SLC
It is always wonderful to get away for a few days...  Different sights, and sounds, and people...  And this year has been so stressful in many ways, that the change was especially appreciated.  It didn't hurt that it was filled with one-on-one "Grandma Time", visits with all three of my children, and some awesome eye candy,

I loved getting to play with sweet little Abby.  At 17 months, she is so much fun.  She is so clever, and sometimes she is just downright hilarious.  Wish I'd brought home a copy of the video her daddy took of her dancing.  She turns circles until she is dizzy, and then she just laughs and claps for herself.  So funny.  And so much fun!

I loved being able to help out while her mommy and daddy made plans to open their online shoppe.  It was great fun to accompany BD#1 to Quilt Market last Friday.  I was so awestruck by all the lovely fabrics, quilts, bags, clothing, and just about anything you can imagine that had anything to do with quilts or textiles.  I took more than 100 photos, and now when I look at them, I think, "Why didn't I take a picture of THAT?"

As an agent for Crafty Fox Fabrics (opening soon), I even got to place a fabric order for some very yummy fabric.  Very fun!  And I even picked up some great loot, some of which I'm sure will be very useful on this blog later (hint!

One of the booths I loved was a triple booth, with Aneela Hoey's Little Apples, Cabbages and Roses' Northcote, and French General's Panier de Fleurs new fabric lines.  All that yummy goodness, and would you believe I only got one photo?  Luckily, BD#1 did a much better job of getting photos of that booth.  In fact, there is a giveaway for a mini charm pack of Aneela Hoey's Little Apples on A Crafty Fox's blog.  Why not head on over and check it out?

A Double Fun Day

Isn't this artwork at the Salt Palace a wonderful inspiration for a quilt?
Today was an awesome day.  I came to SLC on Wednesday to watch my beautiful granddaughter while her mommy was busy at the Spring Quilt Market.  BD#1 and her husband are opening an online fabric store this summer, and this was the perfect event to make it happen.  Today, however, BD#1 got a sitter for Abby, and asked me to accompany her to Market.  I felt like a little kid in the candy stores.  I think our adventures at Market will be the subject of several posts - after all, I took over 100 pictures - so I'll probably just hit the highlights here.

The first half hour or so consisted of standing in line waiting for my credentials.  As a bona fide employee (albeit unpaid) of Crafty Fox Fabrics,  I was able to enter the show.  This is a trade show, after all, and only those with the proper credentials can gain admission.

The entire event was a feast for any quilter.  At the door, however, were a number of gorgeous quilts on display, quilt show style.  One of the highlights for me were 9 Quilts of Valor on display.  I love that people are so supportive of our military men and women who serve and sacrifice to keep our country safe.   When my husband served a generation or two ago in a very unpopular war, people were very unkind to our service members. Whether you agree with the political aspects or not, you have to admire those who serve, and I love this show of support.

Loved this mural style panel quilt

This quilt celebrates two cottonwood trees that survived Hurricane Katrina - and it was done with thread painting!

I loved the bright colors in this one

And this medallion quilt was hand appliqued
And that's before we actually entered the market.  I have dozens more photos to share, so expect a few more tomorrow.  EDIT:  Oh, and there are more pics on BD#1's blog and her Flickr stream.  I haven't been quite so ambitious yet, so head on over and check them out!

I got to meet some of my fabric and pattern heroes, like Camille Roskelly, Bonnie Olaveson and Anne Sutton.  Also some blogger friends that I've admired, like Amy from Diary of a Quilter and Allie from a{squared}w (sorry, I don't have my glasses on and I can't remember how to do the superscript in blogger).  Anyway, we had a blast. I played gawker - tourist to a "T" and BD#1 actually managed to get some work done.

We went to lunch at Zupas in American Fork on the way home, and picked the baby up early, if you can believe it.  BD#1 and her DH went on a date, and I got to quilt on her Bernina QE440, which was also super fun and made the second half of the day pretty awesome!

But for now, it's very late and I'm off to bed.  More Grandma time tomorrow.

The Gift of Grandma Time

I haven't blogged for a bit because the days have been full to overflowing.  HS graduated from UCF on Friday, and on Saturday, WH and I spent the day driving back from Orlando.  Sunday was pretty much spent recovering.  HS arrived Sunday night and spent Sunday through Thursday with us before heading out west to look for a job.  But yesterday, I traveled to SLC to watch sweet little Abby so her mommy can go to Quilt Market.  We are having a great time.

Yesterday afternoon, I stayed with Abby while her mommy ran some errands.  We had a big time.  We had lunch and played outside and went for a walk in the stroller and took a nap.

This morning, we went to McDonald's for breakfast so mommy could get some much-needed sleep before embarking on the festivities of the week.  We had such a good time at Mickey-D's.

Sadly, I didn't get any really good pictures because my phone doesn't take the shot when you press the button, but about 15 seconds later.  One thing about this sweet little girl is that she is always in motion, and a 15 second lag is just too long.  But, some pictures are better than no pictures, so here is my record of our morning.

So, to any of you who might be venturing to SLC for Quilt Market, enjoy!  I may see you on Saturday night at the Meet & Greet or at some of the events if Daddy is home or Mommy gets a sitter.  For now, I am very content to spend some quality time with beautiful little Abby.

TTFN!
